FAQ's - FORS Accreditation

FORS (Fleet Operator Recognition Scheme) is not a legal requirement, but it sets the benchmark for safer, more efficient, and environmentally responsible transport operations across the UK.

Achieving FORS accreditation helps transport operators and fleet businesses demonstrate best practices in fleet management. It boosts credibility, can reduce costs, and helps meet or exceed legal and safety obligations.

FORS is a voluntary scheme, but many companies in London now require their fleet operators to hold FORS accreditation to be eligible for commercial contracts.

FORS standards apply to vehicles over 3.5 tonnes gross vehicle weight, including those typically exempt. Vehicles at or below 3.5 tonnes gross weight are not subject to the same requirements.

FORS can help reduce accidents through improved driver training and safety measures, streamline operations, cut costs, and enhance your business’s reputation.

The main differences between Bronze and Silver FORS are: Bronze: As the entry level, it focuses on ensuring the operator is compliant with industry laws and regulations, demonstrating good practice in areas like vehicle maintenance, driver licencing, and operational efficiency. Silver: Beyond the Bronze requirements, Silver accreditation looks at active efforts to improve safety (e.g., equipping vehicles with cameras and sensors), initiatives to reduce environmental impact (e.g., monitoring fuel consumption), and professional development opportunities for drivers (e.g., eLearning modules). It also demands evidence of successful progression and maintenance of Bronze standards.

ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ISO 45001, Constructionline, Achilles UVDB, SafeContractor, and CHAS are commonly requested by clients and procurement frameworks in the sector.

FORS certification opens up new opportunities with major clients, builds trust with partners, improves your safety and efficiency standards, and strengthens your reputation in the transport and logistics sector.
