FSSC 22000 is a food safety certification scheme based on the existing internationally recognized standard ISO 22000 and complemented by technical standards, such as ISO TS 22002-1 for food manufacturing and ISO TS 22002-4 for packaging manufacturing.
The main difference between the two certifications is that the FSSC 22000 scheme, in contrast to the ISO standard, is recognized by the GFSI (Global Food Safety Initiative). GFSI recognition demonstrates that the scheme meets the highest standards globally leading to international food industry acceptance.

Food Safety System Certification (FSSC) 22000 is an internationally accepted certification scheme based on a combination of ISO 22000 sector specific PRP and FSSC additional requirements.
The key differences between ISO 9001 and ISO 22000 are: ISO 9001 applies to all types of organizations, focusing on quality management, while ISO 22000 specifically targets the food industry, emphasizing food safety management.
Latest version. In March 2023, FSSC 22000 published version 6 of its Scheme, which is mandatory since 1 April 2024.
The choice between FSSC 22000 vs BRCGS is influenced by markets as much as by science. European merchants commonly incorporate the BRCGS into their supply agreements, whereas multinational manufacturers tend to prefer the systems-thinking approach of FSSC 22000.
Conducted every three years to renew the FSSC 22000 certification. This audit is similar to the initial certification audit and evaluates the overall effectiveness and continual improvement of the food safety management system.
The FSSC 22000 certification scheme (hereafter the Scheme) outlines the requirements for the audit and certification of food safety management systems of organizations in the food supply chain. The certificate confirms that the organization's management system is in conformance with the Scheme requirements.
It is based on the ISO 22000 Food Safety Management System standard. The ISO-based FSSC 22000 certification allows for a seamless integration of key management systems standards such as ISO 9001 (Quality Management), ISO 45001 (Occupational Health and Safety), and ISO 14001 (Environmental Management).
