FAQ's - IFS Food

The International Featured Standard (IFS) is a Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI) benchmarked standard for manufacturers, wholesalers, distributors, agents and brokers. IFS addresses food safety and management of product quality in food and ingredient manufacturing, as well as food packaging manufacturing.

IFS Food is a standard for auditing food safety and quality of processes and products of food manufacturers. BRC Global Standard for Food Safety sets out the requirements for food companies involved in processing of foods and preparation of primary products.

The IFS Food standard contains 10 “knock-out” criteria. If your company fails to meet these requirements, certification will not be granted. There are, however, two levels of certification – Higher level, which is a score above 95%, and Foundation, which is between 75% and 95%. A score below 75% results in no certification.

IFS Food version 8 was published in April 2023 and remains the most up-to-date version.

The applicability of IFS version 7 ends on 31st December 2023, other than in exceptional circumstances.

You can request an IFS pre-audit, where an auditor will come to your site to review your food safety and quality systems, products and production processes in order to see if they align with IFS requirements. The auditor will deliver an action plan based on their findings in order to assist you with gaining certification.
